Eating Out in Turnberry & Ayrshire

Ayrshire is renowned worldwide for the quality of its food. The raw materials available within the Scotland are exceptional – beef, lamb, bacon, pork and game in season; fish and shellfish; vegetables; and of course the famous Ayrshire “Tatties”. Other food products include Dunlop cheeses, eggs, a wide range of smoked delicacies, vegetarian savoury produce, cakes, pudding and homemade “sweeties”.

Many of the hotels and restaurants in the Ayrshire area have the award-winning skills to prepare these special raw materials into a menu of culinary delights – and serve them with knowledge, care, skill and attention. Styles of eating in the area range from family casual though informal modern to country house elegance.

Famous Restaurants in Ayrshire

Fouters Restuarant

Fouters is one of the leading restaurants in Ayr, Ayrshire. Tucked away in the heart of Ayr, its distinctive location – an 18th century bank vault transformed into a bustling basement restaurant – provides an unrivalled venue for quality dining in Ayrshire. The intimate yet lively atmosphere is the perfect setting in which enjoy fine produce from Scotland’s larder and to sample an outstanding international wine list.

Souter Johnnie’s Inn

Souter Johnnie’s Inn is built on the site of the old schoolhouse where Robert Burns went to school in 1775. Across the road is the old church ruins and graveyard where Kirkton Jean, Souter Johnnie and Tam O’Shanter are buried under their real names of Jean Kennedy, John Davidson and Douglas Graham. Robert the Bruce was baptised in this old church in 1274, many centuries before the Burns’ connections. Now open after being completely refurbished both inside and out. Comfortable and homely surroundings to enjoy a drink in with a superb menu typical of Costley and Costley Inns. The interior is suitably styled to reflect the writings of burns and has a warm comfortable atmosphere reminiscent of bygone days. The menu is traditionally Scottish, realistically priced and always retaining the high standards our customers expect. The bar area serves pub snacks with a great variety of beers and drinks. Live music with local musicians is greatly appreciated and creates a lively and cosy atmosphere.
